DESCRIPTION

Assistant or early Associate Professor in the Psychology Department of UCLA.

The UCLA Department of Psychology seeks to hire a tenure-track behavioral neuroscientist at the Assistant Professor level or at the tenured Associate Professor Level. We are interested in applicants who are pursing innovative research with model organisms in the basic processes and brain mechanisms serving decision making and choice, broadly defined. As examples, the candidate’s research areas might include but are not limited to questions of decision costs, the benefit of alternatives, and/or competition between motivational systems, psychological processes, and/or brain circuits that arbitrate between conflicting behaviors.

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in a relevant field of study (e.g., psychology, neuroscience), and should demonstrate a strong track record of productive research (preferably at both the graduate and postdoctoral levels) using advanced experimental methods for linking behavior to biology. In addition to an outstanding record of research and strong potential for securing extramural support, the successful candidate will demonstrate a history of, or the potential for, contributing to the teaching, mentoring, and service missions of the Department and University. Individuals with a history of mentoring students underrepresented in the sciences are encouraged to describe their experience in a cover letter.

Applicants should submit a cover letter and curriculum vitae; a statement outlining approaches to research, teaching, and diversity; relevant publications; and three letters of reference via https://recruit.apo.ucla.edu/apply/JPF02559. Nominations and requests for information can be sent to the chair of the search committee, Professor Michael Fanselow (fanselow@psych.ucla.edu). Review of applications will begin onOctober 15, 2016; to ensure consideration, all application material and letters should be received by October, 17, 2016.
