WEBINAR: Science Showcase: What Can Other Species Tell Us About Human Behavior?

Tema: Science Showcase: What Can Other Species Tell Us About Human Behavior?

Descripción: How do birds, insects, and primates help shed light on human behavior? Dorothy Fragaszy, editor of the Journal of Comparative Psychology, will lead us through recent animal research that has improved our understanding of social learning, problem-solving, and decision-making. Panelists will discuss their recent articles in the journal, describing newly-discovered parallels between animal and human behavior. There will be a moderated Q&A so participants can pose questions. If you’re interested in how psychologists study behavior, you’ll want to join us!

This episode is part of “Science Showcase”, APA’s new webinar series on hot topics in psychological science research, presented firsthand by the authors who did the work. Each month, an editor from one of APA’s 89 journals will invite recently published researchers to share their findings and relate them to the pressing issues of our time.

Panelists:
Camilla Cenni, PhD Candidate, The University of Lethbridge
Tomer (Tommy) Czaczkes, PhD, Animal Comparative Economics Lab Group Leader, University of Regensburg
Nora Prior, PhD, Cornell University

Host:
Dorothy Fragaszy, PhD, Editor-in-Chief, Journal of Comparative Psychology and Professor Emerita, University of Georgia

Third edition of the Animal Behaviour Live: Annual Online Congress on the 17th and 18th of November 2022

Dear colleagues,

We are Animal behaviour Live, an international online platform promoting sustainable and inclusive events fully broadcasted online on YouTube. We aim to bring together researchers in animal behaviour from all over the world to discuss the latest research and question our academic practices. We are glad to announce that this year we are hosting the third edition of the Animal Behaviour Live: Annual Online Congress on the 17th and 18th of November 2022.

In line with our ethos, the event is free of charge to all researchers from the community, and we strive to ensure representation from all across the globe and in line with our communities’ composition. To ensure that everyone can participate, we organise multiple sessions per day for a holistic coverage of all time zones. In addition, every presentation is available to replay on our YouTube channel for at least two weeks past the congress. You can find more information about our conference on our website (https://animalbehaviour.live/aoc.html), or by watching some of our past videos on the YouTube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkAcb-k186yZmalqNJ9JTJw).

The deadline for abstract submission has been extended to September 21st , don’t hesitate to submit!!

This year’s conference will also include a satellite workshop on how to apply the STRANGE guidelines (https://doi.org/10.1038/d41586-020-01751-5), a new framework for animal behaviour research that will help to avoid sampling bias and to improve data reproducibility. An extra (free) registration is necessary to participate in this workshop: https://forms.gle/7MneWBULxqicR1W96. From these registrations, we will pick several participants willing to take part in the discussion with the STRANGE team about the issues our community often faces when reporting animal behaviour and what can be done about it. Let us know in the form if you would like to be chosen to act as one such representative of our community and interact live with the authors.

Our organisation is small (we are 7 early career researchers working on a voluntary basis) and the success of this event is based on the support of our community. For this reason, we would be particularly grateful if you could spread the word about this event to your community. To do so, you can use the flyer of the event. In addition, if you have a twitter account, you can also follow us (@AnimalBehavLive) and RT our announcement about the congress.

We would like to thank you for your help and hope to see you at the Animal Behaviour Live: Annual Online Conference 2022.

Kinds regards,

The organising committee.
